1 Trait High, Band's Debut Album Expands On Their Past Work But Also Limits It.

The supergroup, 1 Trait Danger is known for soliciting strong opinions or no opinion at all. Their debut album, 1 Trait High expands on their past works while also limiting it.

The first few tracks are super good. Combining darting synth beats and ear piercing kick drums with sloppy but precise rapping, the first few tracks do not contain rapping -- but the first track does.

While it's not your run of the mill "good" album, with catchy melodies and high quality production value, it's both heartwarming and genuine, though one may argue that it has neither of these qualities. The impeccably plausible delivery is simultaneously bad and good. No one has ever accomplished such a feat in music1. However, it feels derivative.

For some, idiots mostly, 1 Trait High is a tough pill to swallow. Spit shined and rolled around in dirt, it shows flashes of brilliance but also exposes the group's shortcomings as actual people. From paraphrastic and slumping to tall and stiff, this record is sublime but also dreadful.

Author Rating: 10/12, #2 album of the year

1. It is important to note that the same feat has been accomplished, but in film -- the recent reboot of Blade Runner (2049) was also able to produce an art piece that was pretty shitty, but actually really good and like fun to watch.
